In partnership with the Illinois Comptroller’s Office, State Senator John F. Curran (R-Downers Grove) is hosting a free ID Theft and Consumer Fraud Prevention Program to help residents protect themselves against fraudulent attempts and scams.
The event will take place on Thursday, June 7, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Downers Grove Village Hall, 801 Burlington Avenue in Downers Grove. Admission is free to the public, and no RSVP is required. Legislative brochures and a variety of refreshments will be provided.
As part of the program, Curran will be providing constituents with the latest information on the following fraud prevention topics: how individuals and families can protect themselves from scam artists and fraudulent businesses; how to avoid identity theft; how to check a credit report; individuals’ rights under the new credit card rules; and how to file a consumer fraud complaint.
"As con artists continue to find new ways to target consumers, it’s vitally important to protect your personal information and know what fraud prevention tools you have available,” said Curran. “This will be a highly informative session for all individuals looking to strengthen their information security.”
